Frosted films are commonly found in banks, restaurants, health clubs, hotel foyers, conference rooms, and are frequently used on glass partitioned offices for privacy. Decorative and frosted film has become an integral part of the design and construction processes. Many designers are specifying decorative and frosted film and a pattern, or theme, continues throughout the office, and is sometimes personalised with a corporate logo or graphic.

In the home, frosted film is frequently installed on entry side-windows for privacy with a decorate pattern (small cut-outs) to allow viewing of callers. Frosted films are also being used in bathrooms and toilets where the builder has installed clear glass.

Brisbane City Council has also specified the installation of a frosted film where the placement of a window in a new home in an established area may intrude on the privacy of a neighbor.

Any flat glass surface can be turned into a work of art. Frosted and decorative films diffuse the light without appreciably darkening a room. As a result, any window can be treated in a number of attractive patterns.
